Special Action Page |
At our meeting on April 2nd there was a general consensus that we needed a Special Action Page on our web site to keep up with various current events. This page is in response to that request.

The purpose of CUF is to promote and defend the efforts of the teaching church.
Toward that end we offer this section of the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
1183 ...Excessive intervention by the state can threaten personal freedom and initiative. The teaching of the Church has elaborated the principle of subsidiarity, according to which "a community of a higher order should not interfere in the internal life of a community of a lower order, depriving the latter of its functions, but rather should support it in case of need and help to co- ordinate its activity with the activities of the rest of society, always with a view to the common good."
1884 God has not willed to reserve to himself all exercise of power. He entrusts to every creature the functions it is capable of performing, according to the capacities of its own nature. This mode of governance ought to be followed in social life. The way God acts in governing the world, which bears witness to such great regard for human freedom, should inspire the wisdom of those who govern human communities. They should behave as ministers of divine providence.
1885 The principle of subsidiarity is opposed to all forms of collectivism. It sets limits for state intervention. It aims at harmonizing the relationships between individuals and societies.
With this information in mind, we realize that the Church, as part of her theology, and as part of her collected wisdom, teaches us that we are social beings. We live in society. The church gives us the principles of acting within society. As the Catechism above points out, the state has moral limits on its behavior. Some actions by the state clearly violate those principles. Abortion is a grave moral evil.

Health Care
Archbishop Nienstedt tell us the following items are necessary for any law which attempts to change the various health care systems in the U.S.
1.) A statement disallowing taxpayer dollars to fund abortions and, necessarily connected to this prohibition, embryonic stem-cell destruction.
2.) A statement forbidding the practice of euthanasia.
3.) Allowing the federal conscience laws to stand.

90. The medical intervention in transplants “is inseparable from a human act of donation.” In life or in death the persons from whom the removal is made should be aware that they are donors - that is, those who freely consent to the removal.
Transplants presuppose a free and conscious previous decision on the part of donors or of someone who legitimately represents them, normally the closest relatives.
91. As part of this oblative “economy” of love, the medical act itself of transplanting, or even blood transfusion alone, “is not just another intervention.” It “cannot be separated from the donor’s act of giving....”

Pro-Life Doctors
There was a request made at our meeting for a list of Pro-life doctors. These next few links are in response to that request. We have no way of knowing the quality of care these physicians give, or their adherence to Catholic principles. CUF does not endorse particular caregivers. We only provide these names as starting point in your search.
